"Crónica De Uma Morte Anunciada" / "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" de/by Gabriel García Márquez - Crítica/Review

Sinopse: "Esta é a história de um assassinato numa pequena localidade colombiana, próxima da costa caribenha, cuja única ligação com o exterior é um rio. Toda a localidade celebra o casamento de Bayardo San Román, rico e recém-chegado, com Ángela Vicario. Mas Bayardo descobre que a sua esposa não é virgem e devolve-a à casa dos pais. Ángela acusa Santiago Nasar, um rico jovem de origem árabe. Obrigados pela defesa de honra familiar, os irmãos de Ángela anunciam aos quatro ventos a sua determinação de acabar com a vida de Santiago. Todos os habitantes da localidade conhecem as intenções dos dois irmãos menos o interessado, e ninguém faz ou pode fazer nada para evitar o desenlace trágico... Passados mais de 20 anos, um cronista reconstrói passo a passo os acontecimentos."

Opinião Pessoal: Desde há imenso tempo que andava super curiosa em relação a este livro por ter ouvido falar tão bem dele e, realmente é muito bom.

Esta obra retrata-nos o assassinato de Santiago Nasar, por parte dos testemunhos de pessoas que viviam naquela localidade. Os mesmos foram condensado numa crónica, escrita por um amigo da vítima.

Há um sentido crítico nas palavras de García Márquez à medida que vai-nos contando que Ángela Vicario é penalizada por não ter casado virgem e que essa ofensa à honra resulta numa morte, ainda que os assassinos façam, propositadamente, questão de anunciar a todas as pessoas o que se irá passar, de modo a evitar a tragédia...

Porém, devido a um sem fim de obstáculos e deduções, a notícia não é entregue ao destinatário e acaba-se por consumar o crime.

Eu gostei muito da forma como foi explorada esta crónica, dando-nos a perceber várias perspetivas e, principalmente, como pequenas decisões que parecem insignificantes podem levar a resultados completamente diferentes e/ou devastadores.

Adorei o final e como foi escrito!

Personal Opinion: I've been so curious about this book because I've heard so many good things about it that I had to read it!

This book tells us the story of the murder of Santiago Nasar throught what the people in the village has seen or heard. Is it written by a friend of the victim.

García Márquez criticizes the old tradition of the woman marrying still virgin and the fact that the way to honor again Ángela is to murder the lover.

Althought the brothers have to defend their sister, they don't really want to do such a cruel thing and wonder around the village saying that they will kill Nasar, in hopes that he will know and run away, but, Santiago ends up not knowing what is going to happen...

I really liked how this chronicle was elaborated, letting the reader see different perspectives and, especially, the fact that even small decisions can change our life completely.

I loved the end and how it's written.

"Washington Square" de/by Henry James - Crítica/Review

Sinopse: Não encontrei a sinopse em Português. Caso estejam interessados, mais a baixo, em Inglês, está lá tudo.

Opinião Pessoal: Este livro não é o original, mas sim uma adaptação por Kieran McGovern. Quanto ao publicado por Henry James, ainda não o li.
Esta obra faz parte da coleção Oxford Bookworms, que se destina a facilitar a leitura a pessoas cuja língua materna não seja o inglês.
McGovern dá-nos a conhecer a história de amor, ainda que muito atribulada, de Catherine e Morris Townsend. Filha única de um médico rico e sendo ela uma pessoa desinteressante e tímida, é cobiçada pela fortuna que irá herdar depois da morte de seu pai.
Será que o jovem Townsend gosta mesmo dela?
Eu gostei deste livro e achei-o uma leitura muito fácil, porém acho que nesta adaptação a história inicial foi muito resumida, não deixando espaço para o leitor perceber, à medida que o tempo vai passando, o desenrolar da ação.

Classificação: 6/10 (Razoável!)

Plot: "When a handsome young man begins to court Catherine Sloper, she feels she is very lucky. She is a quiet, gentle girl, but neither beautiful nor clever; no one had ever admired her before, or come to the front parlour of her home in Washington Square to whisper soft words of love to her.

But in New York in the 1840s young ladies are not free to marry where they please. Catherine must have her father's permission, and Dr Sloper is a rich man. One day Catherine will have a fortune of 30,000 dollars a year..."

Personal Opinion: This book is, actually, not the original but it has been adapted by Kieran McGovern. The one written by Henry James is still not part of my "Read Books" list.

This one is part of the collection Oxford Bookworms which is better for people who are learning English. 

McGovern tells us about Catherine and Morris's love story. She is an only child of a wealthy doctor and, because she's not very pretty nor interesting, men only court her due to the money she will inherit.

Does Townsend really loves her?

I liked this book and think that's a good easy reading, though it seems that the plot is very summarize which doesn't let the reader fully understand how time evolves.

Rate: 6/10 (Fair Enough!)
